Applications are invited for a Deputy Building and Facilities Manager to work in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory (ICL). You will assist in the overseeing of all work carried out in the Facilities Management Team to ensure that support services for research and teaching run efficiently. This will involve installation and maintenance of research equipment, including vacuum pumps, as well as responsibility for maintenance & repair of the fabric of the laboratory and the building’s mechanical, electrical and air handling systems. In addition the post holder will assist in the management and provision of soft services thus ensuring the efficient running of the building and a safe, efficient, productive and high quality research and teaching environment. In the absence of the Manager, you will assume full supervisory responsibility.

You will be self-motivated with a positive attitude and a highly flexible, problem solving, can do approach. You will also have demonstrable operational and hands on experience of Facilities Management within a scientific environment and will hold an Advanced C&G or HNC or HND of NVQ4 or equivalent.

The Department of Chemistry at Oxford University invites applications for a full-time Facilities Manager, to work under the Department of Chemistry, Director of Administration and Finance, Oxford University. The post holder would take responsibility for the strategic and day to day operational management of the department’s estate and technical services, as well as playing a key role in the project management of laboratory and office refurbishment and capital projects.

You would be heading up a team of 50 personnel, supporting the world class research and teaching of the Department, delivering a customer focused service via 4 key functions and function supervisors: Design & Fabrication (workshops); Front of House (including soft FM); Facilities & Building Management (including Laboratory Services); and Stores & Logistics. The post holder will coordinate facilities management and technical services across Chemistry, maintaining premises and providing services while seeking service improvement, cost control, increased efficiency and best practice in a safe working environment, the post will include on-call and standby payments. As a project manager and experienced “professional client”, the post holder will deliver facilities for research and teaching contributing throughout a project from concept, through design and construction, to on-going management of facilities.

Candidates should be educated to degree level, be able to demonstrate skills and expertise inline with BIFM or equivalent and be an accomplished project manager. R.J.P Williams Junior Research Fellowship in Chemistry  (Dr Mark Wallace, Professor Paul Beer, Professor Darren Dixon)
(Non Stipendiary)

Wadham College proposes to elect a fixed-term non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship in Chemistry (broadly defined) from 1st October 2012. The post is intended to provide a college attachment for a post-doctoral researcher in one of the science departments of the University, and will be tenable for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further two years, or until the University research post terminates, whichever is the sooner. The post will not be renewed beyond the third year. The costs of the Fellowship are borne by a Trust Fund set up in honour of Professor R.J.P.Williams FRS, Emeritus Fellow of the College. Chemistry is firmly established at Wadham, with three Tutorial Fellows (Professor Paul Beer [Inorganic], Dr Mark Wallace [Physical], and Professor Darren Dixon [Organic]), typically 32 undergraduates on course, and around 8 graduates. The college has a strong and continuing commitment across the sciences. The successful candidate will have produced research of a high quality (taking into account the stage of their career). The committee will also consider the degree to which candidates will enrich the academic life of the college and to which their careers may be enhanced by such an association. Preference will be given to those who have not previously held a Fellowship at an Oxford or Cambridge college. The main duty of the Fellow will be to undertake research; but participation in the educational activities of the college through paid tutorial teaching and involvement in admissions would be welcomed. He or she may also be asked to act as college adviser to a small number of graduate students. As a Fellow, the successful candidate will be a member of the Governing Body. S/he will hold the Fellowship under the terms of the Statutes and By-laws in force from time to time. The Fellow will be entitled to lunch and dinner at common table free of charge. He or she will also be entitled to a modest academic allowance to help with research expenditure, the purchase of books or the costs of attending relevant conferences.
