Effect of Temperature on the Formation of (NMe4)2Sn3S7.xH2O

It appears that(NMe4)2Sn3S7 can exist in a variety of different polytypic structures in which the Sn3S7- layers are shifted with respect to each other. The conversion between polytypes is extremely labile and which structure is formed depends strongly on the reaction conditions. The plots below show spectra recorded at 150°C and 175°C. The spectra are clearly different and indicate that different polytypes have been formed. The strong peak at 8.5Å is common to both and corresponds to the interlayer separation.
