Nano Chess Board
A nanoscale chessboard -  a 10 nm x10 nm image of Br on Cu(100)

A 1/2 monolayer of Br on Cu(100) forms a c(2x2) overlayer. At 1/4 monolayer coverage, fully saturated c(2x2) islands order in a mesoscopic chequerboard of 2 nm x 2 nm islands.

A movie of Au on TiO2(110):
This movie shows a sequence of 50x50 nm STM images obtained for a submonolayer coverage of Au clusters on TiO2(110) at 750 K. Each frame took approximately 5 minutes to acquire, and there are 64 sequential frames. The movie runs from beginning to end and then starts over again at the beginning.
The images were acquired on an Omicron VT STM at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Oxford University. C.E.J. Mitchell, A. Howard, and R.G. Egdell.
