Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory

The Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory is currently undergoing an upgrade of its networking infrastructure, with the introduction of Cat5 structured wiring to replace the existing co-ax thinwire network.

Some segments of the old network still exist and are still actively used by some groups.

Structured Wiring

The structured wiring design in the ICL consists of a number (currently 8) of "Concentration Points" or CP's, cables from the wall sockets run back to these points where they are terminated in a number of patch panels. These cables allow machines on the desktop to be connected to network devices situated in the CP's. The CP's are each interconnected with "Backbone" cables.

It is possible to view the layout of the network in the ICL in one of two ways...

Selecting a specific floor and room on that floor to see how the cables in that room connect to the network.

Inspect individual CP's and see which rooms and ports they connect to, along with how the CP's are interconnected.
