QuickTime is Apple's multi-platform, industry-standard, multimedia software architecture. It is used to author and publish synchronized graphics, sound, video, text, music, VR, and 3D media.

Using the QuickTime Movies and a web plugin the following are possible:

Multi-platform playback of mulitimedia

Support of wide range of digital media formats

"Fast Start" feature enabling movies to start playing while they are still downloading

Automatic selection of media based on viewers connection speed

"Hot Spots" and URL links to other web pages or multimedia files

"Poster Frame" preview image allows user to control when to start transferring video and sound data
