Part - time Research Technician in Metabolomics  (Professor James McCullagh)
Grade 6: 27,629 - 32,958 p.a (pro rata)

Applications are invited for a Laboratory Technician in Metabolomics, under the supervision of Professor James McCullagh. This is a new, part time post for a period of 2 years.

This role will involve assisting on a number of innovative projects addressing the effects of disease on cellular metabolism and ultimately looking for ways to produce targeted therapeutic interventions. Responsibilities will include the preparation and analysis of cells and tissues and testing the metabolic impact of potential compounds. The role will involve tissues culture, sample extraction and preparation for mass spectrometry and sample analysis using standard methods. Appropriate training will be provided. Duties will also include data processing and curation of metabolite databases. You will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Metabolomics Laboratory.

The candidate will have laboratory experience in metabolism studies and/or analytical chemistry and ideally, experience in sample preparation for mass spectrometry. Strong numeracy and the ability to communicate effectively at a technical level are essential as are strong problem-solving, planning and organisation skills within a laboratory environment.

The post will be based in the CRL, Department of Chemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

This post is available immediately on a fixed term basis for 3 days per week for two years initially.

The hours of work will be 22 hours per week.
