Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mass Spectrometry and Membrane Proteins  (Professor Dame Carol Robinson)
Grade 7: 31,076 - 38,183 p.a.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Associate who is keen to work in the field of mass spectrometry and membrane proteins. You will be joining a well-established team carrying out cutting edge research under the supervision of Professor Dame Carol Robinson.

The role allows you access to state-of-the art instrumentation and equipment as well as ample opportunity to develop key skills and techniques such as protein expression and purification. Find out more about the research group at: http://research.chem.ox.ac.uk/carol-robinson.aspx/.

The Robinson Group is a leader in applying mass spectrometry to understanding the structure and function of protein complexes. It has recently enjoyed considerable success in the analysis of intact membrane protein complexes. This has revealed important new information concerning the role of lipids in mediating protein interactions, in modulating drug binding and in adapting the conformations of protein complexes.

The current vacancy is to join a research team focused on studying membrane proteins that may become new therapeutic targets and to understand how their structures are affected by small molecule binding. The project has application to understanding drug resistance mechanisms, neurodegeneration and signalling. You will also be involved in continuing to develop novel mass spectrometry approaches for application to this challenging research area.

You should hold a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, physics or a related area or have submitted a PhD thesis prior to taking up the appointment.
