Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Nanomaterial Synthesis  (Professor Charlotte Williams )
Grade 7: 31,604 - 38,833 p.a

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Nanomaterial Synthesis to work under the supervision of Professor Charlotte Williams on a research project for a period of 24 months. This is part of a large-scale project aimed at preparing and using inorganic nanomaterials in photo-redox catalysis to deliver new dense energy carriers. The project is funded by Shell and involves close collaboration with research groups at Imperial College London (Geoff Kelsall in Chemical Engineering and Milo Shaffer in Materials).

You should hold a PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science or have submitted a PhD prior to taking up your appointment. The candidate should have expertise in Synthesis as applied to Organometallic Chemistry or Inorganic Nanomaterials. You should have the ability to work with reagents and materials using anaerobic techniques, such as Schlenk lines or nitrogen filled glove boxes and characterize products using spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. Be able to work independently and to contribute scientific leadership in the project.

You are expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities, and to coordinate work to meet specified deadlines, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate and contribute ideas for new research projects.

The overall project is in collaboration with groups at Imperial College London and with Shell, as such strong communication, team-work and organization skills are essential.

The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TA.
