Welcome!

The Baldwin Group is home to a wide array of research in bio-organic and synthetic organic chemistry. Current areas of investigation include the biosynthesis of β-lactam antibiotics, the biomimetic synthesis of sponge alkaloids and fungal metabolites, and the parallel synthesis of molecule families.

Latest News

Two students, Rui and Ben, have recently finished their studies and are now working for separate companies in Newcastle. Additionally, James and Jing have both just submitted their theses and are awaiting their vivas. Congrats to all!

Prof. Sir Baldwin was awarded the prestigious Paracelus Prize from the Swiss Chemical Society in 2006. The Paracelsus Prize is the most renowned award given by the Swiss Chemical Society every second year to international scientists, in recognition of their outstanding research in the field of chemistry and was awarded on the basis of significant contributions to the field of biomimetic natural product synthesis, particularly towards the understanding of the biosynthesis of b-lactam antibiotics.
