the Virtual Tour of Brasenose College

A passage at the opposite, S.W. corner of the New Quad leads to the New Building (1960). Further expansion of the College was hindered by its restricted situation in the very centre of the city. Only a small piece of land remained, sandwiched between the westward continuation of Jackson's High Street front-basically four separate houses running towards All Saints' Church-and the wall of Lincoln College.

Here the architects Powell and Moya designed a four-storey block on a miniature scale: Portland stone facing, concrete, and lead yielding a much-praised ensemble. The same partnership has since moved to much larger undertakings in the same style at both Oxford and Cambridge.
