St Giles Street by the Eagle & Child

On the west side of the road is the Eagle and Child pub. It has been an inn since 1650, and was the meeting place from the 1930s to the 1960s of the informal literary group known as the inklings. Led by C.S. Lewis, the Inklings included amongst their fraternity such luminaries as Charles Williams, Nevill Coghill and J.R.R. Tolkein.
