Applications are invited
for the THREE postgraduate studentships detailed below. Each
is for three years and the student will be located in the
new Central Research Laboratory with its state of the art
instrumental and laboratory facilities.
- A three year EPSRC funded
studentship from October 1st 2004 to work with Professor
D. O’Hare. The project involves the synthesis of novel
organometallic catalysts with the aim of finding new active
catalysts for the reductive chlorination of polychlorinated
compounds (PCB’s)
- A three year EPSRC CASE studentship
from October 1st 2004 in collaboration with GE Healthcare
(formerly Amersham International plc) to work with Professor
J.R. Dilworth. The project involves the synthesis characterisation
and testing of new technetium complexes for use in diagnostic
medical imaging.
- A three year postgraduate studentship
in collaboration with Infineum UK, Abingdon, from October
1st 2004, to work with Professor J.R. Dilworth. The project
involves the synthesis and characterisation of novel inorganic
clusters and an investigation of their controlled decomposition
to give materials of interest as high efficiency lubricants
and antioxidants.
Informal enquiries
should be addressed as soon as possible to Professor O’Hare
(dermot.ohare@chem.ox.ac.uk)
or Professor Dilworth (jon.dilworth@chem.ox.ac.uk).
Graduate Studentships
in Chemistry
Applications are sought from outstanding
students of any nationality who wish to study for a doctorate
in Chemistry, commencing October 2004.
The Chemistry Department, which has
the largest graduate school in the University of Oxford, has
superb facilities that support an extremely wide range of
research areas across the chemical spectrum.
Details of research programmes and
supervisors can be found by following the links from http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/postgraduate/
Applicants should have, or expect
to obtain, a first class honours degree, or equivalent qualification,
in Chemistry or a related discipline.
If you are interested in applying
for a doctorate in Chemistry, please send a letter of application
[e-mail applications are not acceptable], indicating as closely
as possible the research area and/or preferred supervisor,
together with a CV and names and addresses (including email)
of two referees to Professor W G Richards, Chairman of Chemistry
(GS), Central Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford
OX1 3QH.
We will make offers on the basis
of applications submitted by 27 February 2004, in the first
instance, although we will consider later applications if
funding is available. Overseas applicants should be aware
that parallel scholarship applications must be submitted to
the University very early in 2004; see http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/gsp/finance/int.shtml
Marie Curie
Training Fellowships for Graduates (3-12 months)
Marie Curie Graduate Training Fellowships
are available in association with Dr. John M. Brown, Dyson
Perrins Laboratory, University of Oxford, subject to contract.
Applicants should already be registered postgraduates in an
institution in an EU member state or Associated State. Non-UK
Nationals of EU or Associated States (or non EU nationals
who are long term Community residents) are welcome to apply.
For full details of eligibility see: http://www.cordis.lu/improving/fellowships/mcf_tsites.htm.
The successful candidates will spend
a period of leave of between 3 and 12 months (preferably 6
months or longer) from their main Ph. D. studies to gain specific
training in an area of catalysis allied to organic synthesis
or mechanism. Return travel and a generous monthly stipend
(1200 Euro) will be provided. Projects will be available in
several areas - see : http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/researchguide/jbrown.html
The Dyson Perrins Laboratory has excellent scientific and
information resources for full support of these projects,
and the research group has an international outlook with many
exchanges and collaborations. Applications by current CV should
be sent at any time to Dr. John Brown before the period of
the intended visit (bjm@herald.ox.ac.uk);
a letter of reference from your Ph. D. supervisor should also
be sent concurrently. Oxford University is an equal opportunities
employer.
Full Ph.D.
applications should alternatively be directed to Dr. Jeremy
Robertson, see http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/dp/apply.html
