GENERAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

8 Lectures - Michaelmas Term - First Year
Eight lectures will be given as an introduction to Organic
Chemistry. No previous knowledge of organic chemistry is assumed.
The course deals mainly with general concepts which subsequent
lecturers will build upon.
1. Molecular orbitals, bonding theory, molecular geometry
and molecular formulae.
2. Hydrocarbons and functional groups-bonding and structure.
3 - 6 Acid-Base reactions, inductive effects, resonance,
C-H acidities, amines.
7, 8 Elementary stereochemistry and conformational analysis.
