Topic 1 (Lectures 1 & 2). Palladium catalysts Pd(0) and Pd(II). Fundamental concepts: oxidative addition, insertion, transmetallation, reductive elimination,b-hydride elimination, elimination of b-heteroatom groups and b-carbon. The Mizoroki-Heck Reaction. Kosugi-Migita-Stille Coupling. The Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling. The Sonogashira Coupling. Pd (0)-Catalysed Reactions of Allylic Compounds. The Wacker Process and Selected Variants.

Topic 2 (Lectures 3 & 4). Metathesis in Organic Synthesis. Introduction to Olefin Metathesis by Well-Defined Complexes of Molybdenum, Tungsten and Ruthenium. Ring-Closing Metathesis. Cross-Metathesis. Enyne Metathesis. Alkyne Metathesis. ADMET polymerization. Application to Natural Product Synthesis. Asymmetric Variants.
