Oxford Chemistry will
host Chemistry Open Days on 27 and 28 June 2012,
from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
You don't need to book to attend
University Open Days, during which many departments will be open.
To visit chemistry, just come to the Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory on South Parks Road.
You won't need to spend the whole day in the chemistry department, so you
can also attend a College Open Day, and this is strongly recommended. |
| At 11.00 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. each day there will be an informal
talk (with the opportunity for you to ask questions), by a College Tutor, which will
cover a range of topics, including course structure,
practical and tutorial work, the research year, applications, interviews
and choice of College. Both days will
conclude with the Annual Chemistry Show,
open to all; potential applicants are of course welcome, but so are
parents, teachers and others who know nothing of chemistry!
The show starts at 3.15 p.m., lasts about 45 minutes, and
like the talk on Admissions, will be held
in the Main Lecture Theatre in the Physical & Theoretical
Chemistry Laboratory. |
All Oxford Colleges that offer places to chemistry undergraduates
will be open on either or both of these days. If you are thinking
of applying to Oxford, you will
find it helpful to visit a College as well as the
Chemistry Department. Attendance at College Open Days
(which are listed here)
must be booked in advance. NOTE: If you are travelling a considerable distance
to reach Oxford, so that a return trip
within a single day would be difficult, you may be offered free overnight accommodation and meals
in an Oxford College so that you can attend both Chemistry Open Day and a College
Open Day. Contact Admissions (see www.admissions.ox.ac.uk)
to find out whether space is available. |
| Students and tutors will be available to discuss the chemistry course
at Oxford, and such topics as student life, choice of College,
and how to handle interviews.
Guided tours will be available of teaching facilities and of the Chemistry Research Laboratory,
one of the largest University chemistry research laboratories in the world. |
