Apparatus


One 100cm beaker.
One large watchglass.
One measuring cylinder to measure 20cm.
One dropping pipette.
Access to fume cupboard.


 


Chemicals

The quantities given are for one demonstration

50g of sucrose (table sugar).
20 cm of concentrated sulphuric acid.
About 3g of copper sulphate-5-water (CuSO.5HO).
About 50g of glucose (optional).
One piece of blue cobalt chloride paper.
One piece of potassium dichromate paper (dip a strip of filter paper in a saturated solution of potassium dichromate).
