The experiment objectives are: |
- To teach simple and useful methods for
the handling of moderately air-sensitive compounds using
both inert-atmosphere and vacuum-line techniques
|
- To show the nature of a typical organo-carbonyl
compound
|
- To demonstrate the application of 1H
n.m.r. and infrared spectroscopy to the characterisation
of organometallic carbonyl derivatives
|
- To show a model carbonyl migration reaction.
These migration reactions are important catalytic steps in the
synthesis of aldehydes and ketones.
|
The experiment is divided into two main parts:
- Part
1: The preparation of the compound.
- Part
2: A study of its reactions.
