Oxford chemists Dr Emily Flashman and Dr Rhiannon Evans have recorded podcasts for a major new exhibition at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Bacterial World looks at the untold story of bacteria, revealing how the smallest of organisms are key to understanding ourselves and some of science’s most important questions.
Emily’s podcast, ‘Might bacteria help tackle plastic pollution?’ discusses how scientists are working to engineer optimised forms of an enzyme that can break down plastics. Her recording can be accessed here https://soundcloud.com/morethanadodo/might-bacteria-help-tackle .
Rhiannon’s podcast, ‘Do bacteria hold the key to greener energy?’ describes how researchers in the Armstrong group are learning from bacterial enzymes to develop catalysts for clean fuels. Her recording can be accessed here: https://soundcloud.com/morethanadodo/sets/bacterial-world
