PDB Molecule of the Month

Schofield Group structural work on oxygen sensing systems that contributed in part to this years Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (awarded to Sir Peter Ratcliffe, Bill Kaelin and Greg Semenza) are currently highlighted as "Molecule of the Month" at the RCSB PDB. Prolyl and asparaginyl hydroxylase enzymes modify the hypoxia inducible factor transcription factor and modulate its activity. A drug which targets the prolyl hydroxylases for the treatment of anaemia in CKD patients has recently been approved for clinical use (Roxadustat, Ai Rui Zhuo) in China and Japan and other drugs have recently completed Phase III clinical trials in the US. more........
