Chemistry Teaching Laboratory hosts regional heat of RSC schools' competition

The Department hosted the Regional Heat (Thames Valley section) for the Royal Society of Chemistry's national Top of the Bench competition today.

Open to secondary schools across the UK, the competition sees teams of four students aged 14–16 competing in practical chemistry challenges. In addition to the competition, dozens of participants also heard from Professor Tom Welton (Professor of Sustainable Chemistry at Imperial College London and RSC Past President 2020-21). Teachers and accompanying adults enjoyed a tour of the Department's analytical suite and a visit to the History of Science Museum.

The winning team from this year's heat, from Magdalen College School, will proceed to the national final to be held in spring 2023.
