This Curiosity Cube Workshops for Years 4-8 (8-13 years old) are free 50-minute sustainability sessions that includes three hands-on practical investigations. There's a chance to ask questions about science and scientific careers as the workshop is led by Merck employees as well as ambassadors from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford, along with volunteers from other science disciplines. This event will run across four days and a total of 24 workshops will be delivered across those days.
Experiment 1
We'll examine different types of synthetic and natural fabrics utilised in the fashion industry and categorise them based on their level of sustainability.
Experiment 2
We’ll challenge them to design and test a windmill that produces enough renewable energy to power a model t-shirt factory.
Experiment 3
Together, we’ll explore the process of recycling an old t-shirt into a new one, learning how old clothing can be sorted, shredded into fibres, and re-spun into thread for new garments. We’ll consider ways we can minimise our environmental impact in the fashion industry.
There are still Curiosity Cube sessions available (as of 20/09/2024, 16:30):
