Congratulations to Daria Turculeț, a DPhil student in the Perkin research group, who has been named the inaugural winner of the Sir George Iacobescu Award for Academic Excellence.
The competition, organized by the Romanian Embassy, aims to promote excellence in research and support the Romanian academic community in the UK. Daria received first prize for her “Three Minute Thesis” presentation on her DPhil research into new methods of delivering antibiotics efficiently to bacteria using liposomes, as part of the effort to fight antibiotic resistance.
Daria said: “Winning the Sir George Iacobescu Award for Academic Excellence was a truly meaningful moment for me. Sharing my research in such a short format in this 3-minute thesis competition, pushed me to connect with the bigger picture of why it matters, and being surrounded by so many passionate Romanian PhD students made me feel part of a community that’s committed to making a difference through science. It was a reminder that I’m not alone in this journey, and that our work can resonate far beyond the lab.”
