Explore Chemistry - Using solid state chemistry to convert heat to electricity

A LIVE online talk and Q&A will be taking place on Wednesday 8th October 2025, where DPhil Lemuel Crentsil (OxICFM CDT) will share his journey to Oxford Chemistry and his research on using solid state chemistry to convert heat to electricity.

The world still relies heavily on fossil fuels for electricity, which harms the environment, and in the UK most wasted energy is lost as heat. Thermoelectric materials can turn this waste heat from homes, cars, and factories into electricity using simple, safe devices. Multi-anion solids, which have an adjustable chemical makeup and tunable properties, look very promising for this application, and we will hear more of Lemuel Crentsil's research into these using a range of modern research tools.

This talk will be recorded and made available after the event to sign-ups.
