BIOREME Fellowship funding grant for Dr Lorenzo Petralia

Dr Lorenzo Petralia has been awarded an EPSRC BIOREME Fellowship funding grant to support his research.

Lorenzo will be using the Fellowship funding to further progress his work with The Ritchie Group, where he worked on the development of a novel laser–based sensor for time resolved measurements of the fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO). Measurement of FeNO is a NICE approved method of detecting the presence of eosinophilic airway inflammation.

The next stages of this work will focus on the development of a mechanistic model to locate nitric oxide production in the airways, potentially leading to better understanding and prediction of response to inhaled corticosteroid treatment in patients with TH2-high asthma.  The work will be carried out with support from Professor I D Pavord, Head of Respiratory Medicine at Oxford.
