Chancellor visits the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory

The Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Lord Patten, visited the Chemistry Teaching Laboratories on the 12th July and met students on the UNIQ summer school, finding out more about the residential aspect of the sustained contact programme, as well as the Department’s outreach programmes.

The Chancellor spent time with students in and out of the lab, hearing about their experiences of the course and asking them about their aspirations. Additionally, Lord Patten visited the £6 million Analytical Suite, finding out more about the Department’s world-class practical teaching resources used by undergraduates and visiting school students.

UNIQ is the University of Oxford’s access programme for state school students, which prioritises places for students with good grades from backgrounds that are under-represented at Oxford and other universities. After two years of delivering UNIQ online, 2022 has seen the return to in-person delivery in Oxford for the summer residential, which is complemented by a sustained online programme of academic and admissions support.
