The Department of Chemistry is pleased to be participating in the Africa Oxford Initiative Visiting Fellowship Programme (AfOx VFP). The AfOx VFP is a flagship program of the Africa Oxford Initiative, which aims to strengthen research and higher education collaborations between the University of Oxford and African institutions.
Dr Phanankosi Moyo, a biochemistry Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pretoria, will be working with Professor Chris Schofield at the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research while he is in Oxford. His project will work towards discovering drugs from natural products, and is entitled “Nurturing power of nature: inhibition of metallo-β-lactamases by plant-derived natural products of South African origin”. He aims to discover novel hit compounds inhibiting metallo-β-lactamases within a year.
