PhD thesis prize for Oxford research fellow

Congratulations to Clare Rees-Zimmerman, a Junior Research Fellow hosted in Dirk Aarts’ research group, who has been awarded the 2023 Katharine Burr Blodgett Award for the best PhD thesis in colloid and interface science.

The award was announced at the 2023 UK Colloids conference in Liverpool last month, where Clare gave a talk titled “Electrolyte-driven diffusiophoresis of latex in silica”. Her PhD thesis investigated the microscale motion of particles dispersed in fluid, addressing the need to make functional materials more sustainable by using less of the expensive components while still delivering the required properties.
