The Department of Chemistry and Magdalen College are delighted to announce the launch of the Oxford Sir David and Lady Clary Graduate Scholarships in Chemistry.  Professor Sir David Clary, one of the most eminent and decorated quantum chemists of his generation, served as President of Magdalen College for 15 years.  To mark his retirement in August 2020 a fundraising campaign was launched to endow, in perpetuity, graduate scholarships in chemistry.

These scholarships will provide flexible DPhil funding to the very best chemistry students who wish to undertake the kind of intellectually-demanding, curiosity-driven research which typified Sir David’s own work.  This is particularly needed now as the graduate funding horizon has changed in recent years to a model based on centres for doctoral training.

Now, thanks to the generosity of Magdalen College alumni together with the University Graduate Endowment Matched Scholarships scheme, we are delighted to announce that the initial funding target has been reached and are in a position to offer funding at the home/ROI level for the first DPhil student, beginning in 2022.
