Career and Research Talks

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s campaign, Chemistry. Making the Difference, has useful careers resources for schools, including short films, careers information and much more.

In order to promote the conversation around the careers for chemists, we run online live lunchtime Q&As with members of the Oxford Chemistry community, including current researchers, professional staff and our alumni.

These sessions are open to all interested students, teaching staff and parents who are invited to submit questions in advance or during the session.

All Q&A sessions are recorded and made available via the Department's YouTube channel. You can find links to all our sessions (past and future) below:

State school A level (or equivalent) Chemistry students and teachers are invited to sign up below to a series of enlightening talks by our research chemists, which are followed by a Q&A session.

Talks are visible for one week to allow students and their teachers to reflect, discuss and note any questions they may have, before joining a 45‑minute online live Q&A session with the researcher presenting the talk.

The Q&A sessions will be held on Thursdays from 16:00-16:45* in order to minimise disruption to the school day. Students may attend without a teacher, provided we have a teacher contact and the student signs up with a valid school email address.

*advance notice will be given if there is a change to the day or time of the Q&A.

In order to take part in the series, participants will need to sign up below and agree to our Code of Conduct. We process your data according to our Privacy Notice

The University of Oxford’s Higher Education Access Tracker (HEAT) database is used to record information about the University's outreach activities and those who take part in them. For further information about this database, please see https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/increasing-access/heatprivacynotice

Please note, places are limited to students and teachers from state schools in the UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands, and where we are oversubscribed, we will prioritise places for students who meet our widening participation and access criteria.
