The first complexes of the dianionic bridging ligand pentalene with Cr, Mn and Re have been prepd. and characterised. The chromium complexes are trimetallics with a novel structure while the manganese and rhenium complexes are bimetallics with formula (CO)3M(μ:η5:η5-C8H6)M(CO)3. The manganese complex has a trans- arrangement of M(CO)3 units whereas rhenium forms both cis- and trans- isomers. All complexes are redox-active and their electronic and magnetic properties have been investigated. [on SciFinder(R)]
