Nonconventional catalytic process for ultimate removal of organic sulfur-containing compounds in hydrocarbon fractions

An oxidation desulfurization (ODS) catalytic system composed of sodium tungstate dihydrate, aqueous hydrogen peroxide, and acetic acid was studied. The new oxidation system was tested on a commercial diesel sample from Rabigh Refinery. The sulfur containing compounds in the diesel sample were oxidized to their corresponding sulfones, and were further extracted with methanol.
